In a major effort to position Kanpur as a global electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing center, the Uttar Pradesh administration has announced plans. Under the Kanpur Metropolitan Development Vision - 2030, Kanpur will create a 500-acre electric vehicle park in the Bhimsen neighborhood that connects to the dedicated freight corridor.

With an expected cost of Rs. 700 crore, the project will be run as a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model and will support the growth of India's EV ecosystem.

EV Park: Infrastructure and Scope

Under the guidance of the Uttar Pradesh State Industrial Development Authority (UPSIDA), the EV Park will serve as a large-scale industrial estate primarily dedicated to the production and assembly of electric vehicle parts. The facility will include manufacturing units for critical components such as lithium-ion cells, steel structures, vehicle chassis, and electric vehicle motors.

The park will also establish a local supply chain for electric vehicle production by assembling battery packs, EV chargers, controllers, and other vital electronics.

Dedicated R&D Center

A state-of-the-art research and development (R&D) center that focuses on technology, especially advanced electric vehicle (EV) solutions, will be one of the main features of the new park. It will probably play a significant role in driving regional industry development and influencing greater uptake of sustainable mobility technologies overall.

The Kanpur EV park is anticipated to provide a significant boost to the state's economy. The government hopes to support SMEs and startups by providing them access to infrastructure and market linkages through the establishment of an integrated EV components cluster in addition to the main park. This will produce significant jobs in the area and create fresh chances for local business owners.

Strategic connectivity and location

The park has a logistical edge due to its location along a freight corridor. Kanpur is inherently well-suited for future EV-related investments because of its strong connectivity with rail and road networks, which allows manufacturers to easily transfer raw materials and finished goods with minimal operational delays and costs.
