2025 Tata Altroz Facelift Diesel MT: City and Highway Fuel Efficiency Put to the Test
5 months ago | 5 Views
Recent updates to the Tata Altroz included minor but significant changes for the 2025 model year. The Altroz is still competing with the Toyota Glanza, Maruti Suzuki Baleno, and Hyundai i20, which it debuted with a base price of ₹6.89 lakh (ex-showroom). It is available in six variations: Creative, Creative+, Pure, Pure+, Smart, and Smart+.
Customers can select from three powertrains: a 1.2-liter turbo-petrol, a 1.2-liter Revotron petrol, and a 1.5-liter diesel. The Tata Altroz, which uses a 5-speed manual transmission and a diesel powertrain, is the only high-end hatchback currently available in India. The engine is said to have an ARAI-rated mileage of 23.64 kmpl and generates 89 horsepower and 200 Nm of torque. But what about its performance on the road? We made the decision to investigate.
Actual Mileage of Tata Altroz 2025
The test drive lasted about 58.5 kilometers in and around Bangalore, providing a variety of driving circumstances. We began in dense city traffic, where stopping and going was common, and then moved on to relatively clear roads. The course also featured a hill section with high inclines and descents, which increased the diversity of the drive cycle.
To make matters worse, the automobile was allowed to run for more than an hour during a shoot break, imitating a typical real-life situation in which drivers leave the engine running for electronic gadgets or air conditioning. During the majority of the trip, the air conditioning was on, and there were two people in the vehicle during the entire experiment.
The Altroz diesel achieved a real-world fuel efficiency of 17.6 kmpl during the test drive. Given the combination of driving conditions, mountainous topography, continuous use of the air conditioning, and prolonged idling, this is significantly less than the 23.64 kmpl mileage that the ARAI certified.
Considering that diesel hatchbacks are becoming increasingly rare in this price range, this number is nevertheless fairly decent for a vehicle operating in diverse and sometimes challenging circumstances.
Tata Altroz 2025: Is the diesel Altroz still a good buy?
For individuals who prioritize fuel efficiency and highway comfort, the Tata Altroz diesel model for 2025 is still a good choice. The engine's powerful mid-range and excellent fuel efficiency make it ideal for regular travelers and long-distance commuters, but its low-end response is not perfect for rapid city trips.
The diesel Altroz still offers strong value in a market where diesel alternatives are disappearing quickly, thanks to Tata's renowned ride stability and a number of premium improvements in the makeover.
