2024 Suzuki Swift scores 4 stars in Japan NCAP crash test

Japan was the first market where Suzuki launched the fourth-gen Swift. While Maruti Suzuki plans to bring the new-gen Swift to India in May, this year. Japan NCAP has published the crash test results of the Swift that is being sold in Japan. The Japanese-spec Swift has scored an overall rating of four stars out of five. It is important to note that India-spec Swift will be slightly different than the Japanese model so the safety rating can change.

The Japanese agency tested preventive safety performance and collision safety performance. 2024 Swift secured full five stars in damage reduction brake, damage mitigation brake, lane departure prevention, high-performance headlight, full-wrap frontal collision, side collision, rear collision protection and pedestrian leg protection.

NCAP rewarded four stars for seat belt warning, pedestrian head protection and acceleration suppression when pressing the wrong pedal, full-wrap frontal collision for the driver seat and offset frontal collision driver's seat. It scored three stars in offset frontal collision (rear seat).

2024 Maruti Suzuki Swift: Exterior

The India-spec Swift will be launched in May by Maruti Suzuki. It is expected to come with a slightly different set of bumpers. The company has retained the iconic silhouette of the hatchback which is a good thing. There will be a new set of alloy wheels on the side and the rear door handles are back on the doors. Earlier, they used to be on the C-pillar for a three-door look.

The 2024 Swift uses a black and off-white theme for the cabin which is inspired by the new-gen Baleno. So, there are new dials for the instrument cluster and an updated infotainment system.

Then there is the engine, Suzuki is using a new three-cylinder, naturally aspirated unit that is codenamed Z12E. It puts out 80 bhp of max power and a peak torque output of 108 Nm. It is slightly less powerful than the current Swift which puts out 88 bhp and 113 Nm. However, the new engine does offer a better fuel efficiency figure of 24 kmpl.
