This new mode is distinct from standard Search, claiming to deliver “advanced reasoning, thinking, and multimodal capabilities.” It can be viewed as a competitor to ChatGPT Search, providing an AI enhancement to users' search inquiries. What is AI Mode for Google Search?

AI Mode is a newly integrated AI-driven feature within Google Search, powered by the cutting-edge Gemini 2.0 model. According to Google, this feature aims to “expand what AI Overviews can do,” thereby introducing advanced multimodal capabilities that enable users to address complex search queries with greater efficiency. In AI Mode, users are free to pose a variety of questions and receive AI-generated responses. Additionally, users can engage in follow-up inquiries, with the AI model supplying answers along with relevant web links.

How to access Google AI Mode on Search?

At present, the AI Mode in Search is classified as an experimental feature, necessitating users to first enroll in the Search Labs waitlist. Upon approval of the waitlist, users will receive a confirmation email. Subsequently, users can access the feature by visiting google.com/aimode or by utilizing a new tab within the search filter. This will lead them to a chatbot-like interface labeled “Ask AI Mode.” Furthermore, the interface includes an AI Mode history, enabling users to revisit their previous queries.

Currently, this feature is exclusively available to Google One AI Premium subscribers for testing purposes within Google Labs. A stable version is anticipated to be released in the near future. This innovative AI Mode for Search has the potential to significantly impact Google. However, previous instances of inaccuracies associated with AI Overview's hallucinations raise valid concerns regarding its reliability.
