Tamil star Simbu has joined the sets of director Mani Ratnam's upcoming movie, Thug Life. Pictures of the star hanging out on the sets of Thug Life have surfaced online.

According to reports, Mani Ratnam is shooting in real locations in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. The director had also shot major sequences of his previous films, Ponniyian Selvan Part 1 and Part 2, in Rajasthan. The pictures also show Mani Ratnam sitting at the video village, monitoring the work, along with cinematographer Ravi K. Chandran.

The filmmakers have not yet officially announced Simbu's involvement in the project. Earlier, the producers made a series of announcements revealing the movie's main cast and crew. Headlined by Tamil superstar Kamal Haasan, the film's original supporting cast featured the likes of Trisha, Jayam Ravi, Dulquer Salmaan, Joju George, and more.

A few months ago, speculations were rife that Jayam Ravi and Dulquer Salmaan had opted out of the project owing to scheduling issues. Recently, several industry sources claimed that the producers have sorted out all the issues, and Mani Ratnam's original picks for the film's cast, including Jayam Ravi and Dulquer Salmaan, have been secured.

While there is not much information about Simbu's role in the movie, some say that he might be seen in a double role.

The production of Thug Life

The production of Thug Life went on the floors earlier this year. Earlier, the filmmakers released an announcement teaser revealing the film's quirky title. In the promo video, Kamal Haasan flaunted a unique get-up and introduced himself as a 'thug,' an outlaw.

Based on the teaser, it seems Thug Life is set against a dystopian background and is likely to be high on stylized action sequences.

Kamal Haasan will join the sets after the end of the Lok Sabha elections.
