Sabotage or Competition? ‘Parasakthi’ Actor Slams Vijay Fans Over Targeted Negative Reviews

The competitive spirit of the Pongal box office has been overshadowed by controversy as actor and creative producer Dev Ramnath of the film Parasakthi took a bold stance against what he describes as orchestrated negativity. Ramnath publicly called out certain fan groups of superstar Thalapathy Vijay for allegedly attempting to sabotage the film’s reception through deliberate negative reviews and manipulation of online ratings.

Sivakarthikeyan's period drama, Parasakthi, hit theatres on January 10, following a last-minute clearance from the Censor Board. The release occurred just as the highly anticipated film Jana Nayagan, Vijay’s final movie before his announced political transition, faced legal hurdles, leading to its release being postponed until after the Pongal holidays.

The Accusations of Sabotage

Taking to social media, Dev Ramnath posted a scathing critique of the online behaviour he claims to have observed. He provided screenshots and detailed instances of what he considered unfair play, specifically targeting certain users for their attempts to undermine Parasakthi.

His key accusations included:

  • Manipulating Ratings: Deliberately lowering the film's ratings on popular ticketing platforms like BookMyShow (BMS).

  • Spreading Falsehoods: Circulating outdated or irrelevant video clips to generate negative buzz.

  • Disrupting Theatres: Encouraging theatre-goers to raise political slogans during screenings of Parasakthi.

Ramnath stressed that this behaviour goes beyond healthy competition, echoing sentiments that such targeted campaigns are becoming an unhealthy trend in the industry.

"Did We Stop Jana Nayagan?": Ramnath’s Question

Ramnath opened his post with a pointed question aimed at the rival fan base, asserting his team’s right to release their film during the festive window.

“Just because we're releasing alongside your film doesn't give you the right to sabotage ours. We announced our release date first. Did we try to stop your film? Never.”

He highlighted the fact that Parasakthi had secured its Pongal release date long before the controversy surrounding Jana Nayagan arose. Ramnath further detailed the immense struggle his own team faced with the Censor Board, confirming that they only received their clearance barely 18 hours before the film’s scheduled release. He drew a clear line between dealing with genuine production hurdles and facing manufactured public backlash.

A Plea for Unity and Fair Play

The creative producer reminded fans and the cinema community that Parasakthi is a film with a strong social message, centred around a revolutionary student movement in Tamil Nadu. His concluding statement was a powerful appeal for professional ethics and unity in the industry.

“Talking as a cinema lover, this isn't healthy for any of us... We will fight this, just the way our students did.”

Ramnath’s comments underscore the frustration felt by filmmakers who invest time, effort, and money into their projects, only to have their initial run jeopardized by organized online attacks. The controversy highlights a growing debate over fan loyalty vs. professional fairness in the age of viral social media campaigns.
