Vijay Antony and Mirnalini’s Ravi’s film Romeo is set to premiere on Aha Tamil on May 10. The romantic drama is directed by Vinayak Vaithianathan and explores the relationship of the lead couple who get married much to the chagrin of the girl who aspires to be an actor.

While the film got mixed reviews upon its release in theatres, there is one thing that might want you to stream the film on OTTplay Premium, especially if you are a lover of films like Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi and Kaavalan. Romeo’s resemblance to Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi and Kaavalan

For the uninitiated, Romeo is about a newly married couple, Arivu and Leela, where the husband is in love with the wife, who does not reciprocate his feelings. Reason? Leela wants to become an actor, but her ambition is cut short after a trip to her village forces her to get married to Arivu. As they move back to Chennai to start their married life, Leela is curt towards Arivu and goes all out to make him feel distanced and unloved. Spoilers ahead.

While the film starts off as any other romantic drama, Romeo soon takes a turn that will reminisce about Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi and Kaavalan. Halfway through the film, after Arivu realises Leela’s ambitions, he decides to become a producer to back the film that she and her friends are trying to be a part of. And this is where the film becomes Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi.

Besides drawing parallels between an aspiring actor being stuck in an involuntary marital life, Romeo also takes inspiration from Kaavalan after Arivu keeps talking to Leela over the phone disguised as one of her fans. Kaavalan, too, had a similar trope where the heroine spoke to the protagonist of the film without him knowing her real identity as the duo began to fall in love with each other.

Romeo soon bears an uncanny resemblance to these films, which talks about contrasting personalities falling in love after marriage, with husbands pining for their wives’ love. You can stream Kaavalan on SunNXT and OTTplay Premium, while Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi is available on Netflix.
