Rahul Sadasivan, who directed the critically acclaimed Bramayugam, has collaborated with Pranav Mohanlal for another horror film. The movie has just finished filming, and the name of the highly awaited project has been disclosed as Dies Irae. From the meaning of the title to its genre, here’s all you should know about the forthcoming Malayalam film.

Rahul Sadasivan-Pranav Mohanlal’s horror film gets a title

Following Bramayugam and the award-winning Bhoothakaalam, Rahul Sadasivan is partnering with Pranav Mohanlal on the horror film, which was initially called NSS2. The young director announced on social media on May 9 that the title would be Dies Irae, The Day of Wrath, featuring Pranav in the leading role.

Rahul Sadasivan has also written the film, which is produced by Night Shift Studios and YNOT Studios. Shehnad Jalal serves as the DOP, while Jothish Shankar is the art director. The film’s music will be composed by Christo Xavier, with Shafique Mohamed Ali as the editor. So far, only the name of the lead actor has been disclosed, with the remainder of the cast kept under wraps.

Fans decode Dies Irae title

Rahul’s social media announcement was met with great excitement by fans, who believe the director will achieve a hat-trick of remarkable films. Some internet users also took the time to clarify the meaning of the title Dies Irae, a Latin phrase that alludes to the Last Judgement. Some commented ‘International Stuff’ and ‘Eagerly Waiting’.

Both Bhoothakaalam and Bramayugam are now available for streaming on SonyLiv and OTTplay Premium. Bhoothakaalam, featuring Mammootty, tells the story of a folklore singer from a lower caste who seeks shelter in an ancient mansion after getting lost in the forest. The elderly patriarch welcomes him warmly, much to the singer's delight. However, he remains unaware of how his life is about to change from that moment on.

Conversely, Bhoothakaalam is set in contemporary times and revolves around Vinu and his mother Asha, who live in a rented house. After a death, the young man starts to experience strange occurrences within the home. The film stars Shane Nigam and Revathi, who received a state award for her performance.
