Pruthvi Ambaar’s first release for the year was Juni, a romantic drama with a twist in which he was paired with Rishika Naik. The film released in theatres in early February and then came to Amazon Prime Video in the first week of April. The film’s theatrical run was not as productive as the team had hoped for given that Kaatera and Upadhyaksha were still doing well at the box office, but since its OTT outing, Juni has been doing really well.

Earlier today, debutant director Vaibhav Mahadev shared that the film had managed a streaming milestone since coming on Amazon Prime Video. The film, he said, has registered a whopping 1 crore streaming minutes, which, given its pay-per-view status with the platform, is good news for the team.

Vaibhav Mahadev, wrote the film based on a real-life person, who has dissociate identity disorder (DID). Based on his interactions with this person, Vaibhav wove together a romantic drama to create awareness about the disorder and how people ought to react to those dealing with DID.

The film, Juni, centres on Rishika Naik’s title character, and her relationship with Partha (Pruthvi Ambaar), a chef at an upscale café. More than the love story between Partha and Juni, the film focuses on how he comes to term with the fact that she has multiple personalities and learns how to behave with each of them. This, in turn, made Juni a tad more academic than entertaining.

In a recent media interview Vaibhav spoke at length about how the release of Juni and its marketing, or the lack of it, was a learning for him and his team. Although the team did a fair bit of promotions, they were not timed well enough, he felt and stated that budgetary constraints also meant that there were limitations to what they could do.
