Actor-composer GV Prakash Kumar was featured in the recently launched film Kingston, which premiered in theatres on Friday, March 7. This film, categorized as a sea adventure horror fantasy, also represents GV Prakash's inaugural venture as a producer. As the film is currently screening in cinemas, it is pertinent to examine its box office collection on the opening day.

Kingston box office collection day 1 report is here

GV Prakash's film Kingston is a maritime adventure, touted as a pioneering effort in Indian cinema. The project is both written and directed by first-time filmmaker Kamal Prakash, with Divya Bharathi starring as the female lead.

On its opening day, the film garnered Rs 90 lakh at the Indian box office. While there are expectations for increased earnings over the weekend, the film's niche genre and critical feedback suggest that Kingston may experience a subdued box office performance initially.

This film represents GV Prakash's 25th role as a leading actor. The cast also includes notable performances from Dhivyabharathi, Chetan, Azhagam Perumaal, Elango Kumaravel, Sabumon Abdusamad, Antony, Arunachaleswaran, Rajesh Balachandiran, among others. The music is composed by GV Prakash Kumar, with cinematography by Gokul Benoy and editing by San Lokesh.

What is Kingston about?

The film is promoted as India's inaugural sea adventure horror movie, set in the fishing village of Thoovathur. Fishing has been prohibited along the Thoovathur coast, despite the presence of a community that relies on the sea for their livelihood. There are whispers that the waters are cursed, leading to the disappearance of fishermen who dare to set sail. Kingston, a member of the fishing community, works as a handyman for Thomas, the notorious leader of the local smuggling operations. Complications arise when Kingston discovers that he has been unwittingly involved in drug smuggling rather than the intended trade of sea cucumbers. This revelation prompts him to brave the haunted waters, where he uncovers unsettling truths from the past.

Upon its release, the film received unfavourable reviews.
