Director Prasanth Varma celebrated the success of his latest directorial outing, HanuMan, by holding a media event on Wednesday to express his gratitude to fans. The movie completed 100 days in cinemas, achieving a significant milestone at the box office.

The extended theatrical run of HanuMan assumes significance at a time when even the biggest blockbusters lose steam after just a few weeks. Despite the film boasting mostly a non-star cast, it has managed to remain in theatres purely on its merits.

While speaking at the event, Prasanth expressed surprise over the movie's ability to draw audiences to cinemas, despite being widely available on streaming platforms.

"Watching movies in cinemas was a matter of celebration for us. If some films ran for 100 days, we would feel as if it were our success. When I became a director, the trend changed," rued Prasanth Varma as he got nostalgic about the evolving landscape of Indian cinema.

Where's HanuMan streaming?

Prasanth claimed that as per current industry trends, a movie lives and dies within its opening weekend, and rarely does a film continue to excite the audience beyond the first three days.

"In this generation, there are plenty of options like satellite and OTTs. In today's time, people are still going to theatres to watch HanuMan, and for that, I feel very lucky. From day one, I promised to deliver a great theatrical experience, and I want to thank my cast and crew for helping me achieve that," he added.

All new South Indian movies made their streaming debut within four weeks of their initial theatrical release. However, HanuMan stayed out of the OTT platforms for more than eight weeks as it continued to remain the top choice for moviegoers in the Telugu states.

After raking in more than Rs 300 crore from ticket sales, HanuMan made its debut on ZEE5 last month. It is also available for streaming on OTTplay Premium.
