The big screen seems like the ideal platform for J.P. Dutta's epic war films. Even though most people are already on the OTT bandwagon, it appears that the seasoned director is also prepared to change with the times.

J.P. Dutta's transition to OTT with new military drama

Now, Midday has discovered that the filmmaker, who has helmed films like Border (1997), Refugee (2000), and LOC: Kargil (2003), is planning to launch a digital entertainment venture with a military drama. The makers have locked down the script for the series. An actual war will serve as the basis for this massive patriotic series. According to an insider, Disney+Hotstar is eager to start filming right away. JP's daughter, Nidhi Dutta, will produce the offering under their banner.

Binoy Gandhi, who is also Nidhi's husband and a filmmaker, was eager to take over the show as a director. The legendary filmmaker wanted to move things forward, but he is currently occupied with Ghudchadi, which stars Sanjay Dutt and Raveena Tandon. According to the insider, the top brass didn't want to wait too long to kick-start because the initiative was ambitious for the streamer. Soon, the makers will likely start casting.

Sequel to Border underway

With Border 2 already in the works, this is the Duttas' second project for the year. Reports from last year indicate that 2024 will see the release of the sequel to the 1997 smash hit, starring Sunny Deol and Ayushmann Khurrana. By incorporating the backstories of the heroes of the 1971 India-Pakistan war, Border 2 aims to delve into the historical context of the conflict.

Rumours circulated that T-Series and Nidhi Dutta had approached Kartik Aaryan to play a pivotal role in the sequel. However, the official spokesperson refuted the rumours by stating, "In response to the ongoing speculations, T-Series and Nidhi Dutta's sources have refuted the claims of approaching Kartik Aaryan for Border 2. These rumours are baseless and lack any factual basis. The film's supporters are urged to dismiss such misinformation and trust only authentic updates from official sources."
