Tamil superstar Dhanush's latest movie Captain Miller is all set to have its world digital premiere on February 9 on Amazon Prime Video, less than a month after its initial theatrical release on January 12, which coincided with the Pongal holiday.

Captain Miller, written and directed by Arun Matheswaran, faced high expectations in the run-up to its theatrical debut. Many early predictions suggested it could become one of the biggest hits in Dhanush's career. And much to the delight of several trade analysts, it took a significant opening at the global box office. However, the film failed to grow beyond its opening weekend.

Captain Miller worldwide collection so far

According to Cinetrak, Captain Miller has earned about Rs 68 crore from its worldwide ticket sales in the 24 days since its release. In Tamil Nadu, the movie has collected about Rs 37 crore, which is disappointing compared to Dhanush's previous movies at the Tamil box office.

Despite being Dhanush's largest film in terms of scale and budget, Captain Miller fell short of the coveted Rs 100 crore mark, a milestone achieved by his smaller-budget films like Thiruchitrambalam and Vaathi. The film received positive reviews but failed to leave a lasting impact at the box office.

Captain Miller vs Ayalaan at box office

In contrast, Sivakarthikeyan's Ayalaan, despite mixed reviews, outperformed Captain Miller by earning over Rs 75 crore during the same period. Both Captain Miller and Ayalaan are considered commercial flops, as the general expectation is for a movie to collect three times its actual budget to be deemed a box office hit.

In Captain Miller, Dhanush plays Analeesan, aka Captain Miller, a member of an oppressed community in British India. The story revolves around his journey from joining the imperial army to rebelling against the British Empire after a traumatic incident. The movie also stars Shivarajkumar, Priyanka Arul Mohan, Aditi Balan, Sundeep Kishan, Edward Sonnenblick, and John Kokken.
