Tamil superstar Thalapathy Vijay's blockbuster movie Ghilli was re-released in cinemas last week to a rousing response. The film has brought cheers to theatres in Tamil Nadu, which were suffering due to a lack of new and exciting content.

With the blockbuster success of Ghilli, a 20-year-old film, there is now a demand for the re-release of Vijay's contemporary Ajith Kumar's Mankatha.

Demands grow for Mankatha re-release

In Mankatha, Ajith Kumar portrays a ruthless and cunning man embroiled in a high-stakes game of heist and betrayal. One of the film's standout aspects is its well-crafted screenplay, which seamlessly weaves together multiple layers of deception and suspense.

Ajith, after a long time, unapologetically embraced the anti-hero character and delivered a powerhouse performance as Vinayak Mahadev, a high-ranking police officer, driven by greed and ambition.

The narrative revolves around a well-executed heist that robs hundreds of crores from powerful and dangerous people around the world. While a young team led by Vinayak may have succeeded in looting the rich, conflict ensues when greed takes over everyone's mind, and the entire Rs 500 crore vanishes from the hideout overnight. What follows is a high-stakes chase, with Vinayak trying to catch the culprit and stop the loot from slipping away from him.

The supporting cast includes Arjun Sarja, Trisha Krishnan, and Premji Amaren. Their solid performances complement the film's fast-paced narrative.

Where to stream Ajith Kumar's Mankatha?

Mankatha is known for its bold screenplay, which is the antithesis of quintessential anti-hero characters created in Tamil cinema. Typically, the hero, who indulges in crimes, comes with a sobful backstory to justify his actions and life. But in Mankatha, the hero is simply a bad man, and he doesn't bother to explain himself.

Set against the murky world of gambling and illegal betting, the film's stylish visuals, adrenaline-pumping action sequences, and pulsating soundtrack further enhance its entertainment value, making it a must-watch for fans of the genre.

Director Venkat Prabhu wrote and directed Mankatha. He is currently busy directing Thalapathy Vijay's upcoming movie The Greatest of All Time. Mankatha is streaming on SunNXT .
