Abbabba, the Kannada comedy flick led by Likith Shetty and Amrutha Iyengar, among others, is now on OTT. The film, which released in theatres on February 16, has made its way to Amazon Prime Video, albeit, on the store only. The HD version of the film directed by KM Chaitanya can be accessed for Rs 79.

Unlike Yuva, which came to the store as early access and was later made free to subscribers, Abbabba is the latest Kannada film that has been given a rental-only deal on the streamer. A few days ago, it was Geetha Bharathi Bhat’s Ravike Prasanga and now Abbabba joins the club. According to sources, only a select few star-led films still get outright sale deals on the platform, while those with decent reviews get pay-per-view contracts and the rest go to the store, where chances of recovering costs are even slimmer than with pay-per-view.

Abbabba, a remake

Abbabba is the remake of the Malayalam film Adi Kapyare Kootamani, which came out almost a decade ago. The Kannada version is a fairly straight-forward scene-by-scene remake of the original, with Chaitanya only making a slight change. Abbabba is about what happens when a girl is smuggled into a boys-only hostel. But for the circumstance that leads the girl to make her way into the hostel, everything else is the same as the Malayalam original, which is available to stream on Disney+ Hotstar.

Adi Kapyare Kootamani stars Dhyan Sreenivasan, Aju Varghese, Neeraj Madhav, Vineeth Mohan and Namitha Pramod in the lead, roles that Likith Shetty, Thandav Ram, Ajay Raj and Dhanraj Achar took on. Malayalam actress Ann Augustine debuted as producer on the Kannada version, in a joint venture with Vijay Babu’s Friday Film House. The film was distributed by KRG Studios, which then embarked on a new collaboration with Vijay Babu. They’ve announced one joint production, Padakkalam , while Vijay will act in Uttarakaanda, produced by KRG Studios.
