There are movies that get released and are quickly forgotten. And there are movies that stay in the hearts and minds of the audiences long after they’re replaced by new Friday debuts. Produced by Sajid Nadiadwala and directed by David Dhawan, Judwaa (Twins), that was released on February 7, 1997, happens to be one among the latter. The producer, Nadiadwala Grandson, today put out a social media post on Instagram, celebrating 27 years of the movie. No wonder, many like us, were swept by a wave of nostalgia in no time.

This dialogue was inspired by one of the superhit songs of the film ‘Tan Tana Tan Tan Tara’, with music directed by Anu Malik and sung by the duo Abhijeet Bhattacharya and Poornima. The song had attained a chartbuster status among the 1990s audience back then and could be found playing at almost every other party.  

The story behind the story

The highly successful action-comedy film was a remake of the Telugu movie Hello Brother (1994), which was inspired by Jackie Chan's action-comedy Twin Dragons (1992). The twins Raja and Prem (played by Salman Khan) get separated at the time of birth. Prem becomes a well-known musician in America, while Raja becomes a small-time criminal in India. To get Prem married to Mala (Karisma Kapoor), Prem's father sends him to India. Prem is in love with a kind and reserved girl named Roopa (Rambha), while Mala is in love with Prem's twin Raja. What happens when Raja meets Prem formed the story’s plot. This film also marked the first double role in Salman Khan’s career, nearly a decade after his debut. It was also the first time Salman starred in a David Dhawan film, going on to do many more with the director later, such as Biwi No.1, Chal Mere Bhai, and Partner.
