While one of them falls for a girl, Jeans’ plot revolves how the girl and her family decide to cook up a non-existential twin sister for her, in order to be accepted by the boy’s family. It is one of the earliest Tamil films in Aishwarya Rai’s film career.

Jeans also starred Nasser, Lakshmy, Raju Sundaram, SV Shekhar, Janaki Subash, Radhika Sarathkumar and others in prominent roles. The romance drama was produced by Ashok Amritraj and Murali Manohar. The film bagged four Tamil Nadu State Film Awards, and the National Film Award for Best Special Effects. Jeans was also submitted as India’s official submission for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.

Jeans’ technical prowess

Jeans was considered as one of the films with lavish budgets at the time it was made. A song from the film, Adhisiyam, was shot in the location of seven wonders of the world at that time. Besides, the film was set in the US for major portions, besides using excessive computer graphics for its various sequences.

AR Rahman scored the music for Jeans, and all the songs were chartbusters. The film was shot by Ashok Kumar and edited by B Lenin and VT Vijayan. Jeans has a runtime of two hours and 46 minutes.
