Subham Story

Subham is directed and written by Praveen Kadregula, known for Cinema Bandi. Following the success of the village drama, he positions Subham in another small town and crafts a horror comedy that offers substantial values and wholesome entertainment. Praveen develops a narrative about women developing an addiction to TV serials and how they become frustrated when interrupted during the show's broadcast. The director incorporates a horror comedy perspective into this and narrates the film in an entertaining manner.

Subham revolves around women becoming addicted to a TV serial and disliking the way the female characters are mistreated by their husbands. Through this theme, director Praveen Kadregula illustrates the desire of women for independence and the support they require regardless of circumstances. This also explains the film's setting in a small town, focusing on three men who aim to control their wives. The idea of women being possessed by watching a TV show is cleverly conceived and results in an enjoyable viewing experience.

The plot intensifies when Samantha makes her appearance, as her cameo is charming and easy to digest. Despite this, the explanation for women transforming into malevolent spirits is not well-defined. Even towards the conclusion, this theme remains unresolved. Since the emphasis leans more towards comedy, such logical aspects tend to be overlooked. The horror elements in the film are commendable, yet the drama and emotional stakes require greater tension. There was significant potential to enhance this area, but the creators do not succeed. Nevertheless, the film includes several heartwarming moments.

The three friends and their conversations about being an alpha male in front of their spouses are presented in an entertaining way. Another element of the film that draws you in is the small-town setting. The production quality is excellent, and the selected locations are stunning. Regarding the performances, Subham's casting is largely accurate and he typically gets it right.

Harshith R plays one of the main roles, and he is the highlight of the film. His facial expressions, anxious behavior when his wife becomes aggressive, and perplexed demeanor are portrayed excellently by the young actor. Srinivas Gavireddy has a notable role and brings about good laughter through his character. Charan Peri continues to impress with each of his films and performs very well in Subham. The female leads are newcomers and perform admirably in their significant roles.

Shriya Kontham appears innocent and shifts to violence when necessary, and she is well-cast. When it comes to eerie expressions, it is Shravani Lakshmi who excels. Her haunting eyes and the way she depicted the possession by an evil spirit are very impressive. Shalini Kondepudi also delivers a commendable performance in her role. The rest of the cast also performs well. A major highlight of the film is how Praveen incorporates the characters from his first film, Cinema Bandi, as central figures in Subham. The integration of his cinematic universe for both films is quite remarkable.

Clinton Cerejo created the score, and his background music was rather impactful. However, it is cinematographer Mridul Sen who stands out as the film's hero. His visuals, the way he depicts the small-town environment, and the horror elements are exceptional. Samantha Ruth Prabhu, known for Eega and A. Aa, produced the film, and her involvement and support for the crew are notable.

Conversely, director Praveen Kandregula demonstrates once more his determination to remain in the industry. His narratives take place in small towns and evoke strong emotions. Subham is his second film and his finest work thus far. The authentic characters, their weaknesses, and the humor that arises from them are the film's highlights.

Comedy films must deliver a strong sense of enjoyment, and if told correctly, they can achieve great success, as shown by the recent hit Sankranthiki Vasthunnam. Remaining faithful to that genre, the family audience will appreciate the film since watching TV serials is an integral part of everyday life for women in every household, and Praveen has successfully crafted an entertaining narrative that engages viewers until the very end.

Subham Verdict

Subham is a tidy, cheerful comedy that genuinely intends to convey positive messages. If you overlook a handful of boisterous scenes, the central conflict, the enjoyment arising from it, and the bond with all women create an enjoyable viewing experience this weekend.
