The hype for Aavesham might not have been as much as Vineeth Sreenivasan’s Varshangalkku Shesham. But the movie is still among the most anticipated for a lot of the youth audience – especially because it marks the sophomore directorial of Romancham’s Jithu Madhavan and most importantly, it presents Fahadh Faasil in an all-out entertainer avatar – something that the Pushpa actor himself has confessed that he hasn’t done before.

Though the movie released to limited theatres in Kerala, despite being backed by Fahadh, Nazriya Nazim and Anwar Rasheed, the Twitter reviews post its first day first show are pouring in from across the State and outside – and it promises a roller-coaster ride featuring Ranga and his boys.

Aavesham Twitter review – another blockbuster loading for Malayalam cinema?

The reviews after the first shows hint that the Jithu Madhavan directorial works as a festive release - with good action, comedy and 'mass' moments, courtesy of Fahadh Faasil, Sajin Gopu and the three youngsters. Audiences shared mixed response about the film's two halves. 

While some felt that Aavesham's first half was terrific thanks in large part to the interval block featuring Fahadh Faasil's Bengaluru-based goon Ranga, the others tweeted that the second half was slightly better in terms of pacing. A common sentiment, however, was that the movie would work in theatres, if watched with a larger group of audience. 

How is Fahadh Faasil’s performance as Ranga?

The makers had promised to reintroduce Fahadh through the film and they seemed to have delivered. The audience praised the actor's screen presence while playing the unhinged goon in the movie, which also showcased a frenzied side of the Pushpa star. This peaks during the interval block, along with Sushin Shyam's thumping background score. Though Fahadh said the role would remind audience of moments from Rajamanickam, many thought it was more akin to Mammootty's role as the Kannadiga gangster in Chattambinadu.

What doesn’t work in Aavesham?

Some felt that the humour in the first half fell flat and the movie ran out of the steam in the second half. That it also followed a festive film template, didn't go down well with a few Twitter users, who seemed to have been expecting something fresh - given that the movie had Fahadh and Anwar backing it and was helmed by Jithu, whose Romancham did rejuvenate the horror-comedy genre in Malayalam cinema last year. 

Could Aavesham beat Varshangalkku Shesham?

Netizens have already started sharing photos of Vineeth Sreenivasan and Fahadh Faasil’s Chaapa Kurishu that had the duo locked in a gritty battle. It does seem that both Aavesham and Varshangalkku Shesham will face strong competition from each other as well as Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Aadujeevitham, which is still enjoying a decent hold in theatres especially in the Malabar region.

The PVR-Inox disagreement with the Kerala Film Producers also could dent the movies’ box office earnings especially in centres outside the State. That said, both movies is expected to rake in good collection based on the reviews the coming weekend and could very well keep Mollywood’s purple patch going.
