Karthik and Moni have been best friends since childhood, and their bond remains strong as they mature. Their friendship gains significant recognition, leading them to manage social media accounts that feature their joint names, and they influence each other's life choices considerably. However, challenges arise when unforeseen circumstances test the resilience of their friendship.

Director Suseenthiran's films have traditionally not placed romance at the forefront. While romance has certainly played a significant role, it has not been the primary focus. For instance, in Vennila Kabbadi Kuzhu, the romantic element is subtly implied rather than explicitly stated, whereas Aadhalal Kadhal Seiveer explores the pitfalls of a careless romance, serving as a poignant reminder of its potential consequences. However, with the film titled 2K Love Story, Suseenthiran asserts that it is decidedly not a love story. Although the film is set in contemporary times, incorporates modern vernacular, and addresses romance alongside friendship, it ultimately devolves into a cringe-worthy experience in its attempt to present something novel.

The narrative centers on Karthik and Moni, showcasing the deep friendship that exists between them. Moni frequently makes significant decisions on behalf of Karthik, who readily complies. From the outset, the film attempts to explore the modern concept of "boy-girl best friends," but it presents a distorted view of friendship, suggesting that true friendship involves one friend imposing their choices on the other. While 2K Love Story aims to portray a progressive image by depicting friendships between young people of different genders, it paradoxically refers to homosexual women as “Andhra maari girls” when a character suggests that a girl expresses disinterest in boys to deter unwanted advances.

The film also makes some peculiar choices, even in serious moments. For example, Moni's parents express a desire for her future husband to have a sibling who would marry Karthik, ensuring that the best friends remain connected and can support each other through life's challenges. This raises the question of how they would find suitable partners from the same family, given that the characters come from different castes. Throughout the film, the controlling dynamics and excessive attachment issues contribute to a misunderstanding of the essence of true friendship. While it cleverly avoids romanticizing Moni and Karthik's relationship, Suseenthiran's other questionable decisions detract from the film's overall message.

2K Love Story verdict

2K Love Story is a flatlined and skewed take on modern-day friendships and relationships. It does not make anything Gen Z by throwing in some modern-day terms either. Overall, the film is rendered to be a dull, and unengaging tale.
