For the last 24 hours, filmmaker Nag Ashwin’s much-awaited mythological project Kalki 2898 AD has been trending online. This is mainly because the teaser of the mythological drama was released on April 21 which portrayed Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan as the fictional character Ashwatthama. Numerous Bollywood celebrities including Deepika Padukone and Abhishek Bachchan have hailed the teaser. Amid such developments, a fresh report believes that actors Vijay Deverakonda and Dulquer Salmaan will likely play minor roles in Kalki 2898 AD.

According to a report by Gulte, Vijay Deverakonda and Dulquer Salmaan will make special appearances in Kalki 2898 AD. The details of their roles are not yet known.

What was seen in the teaser of Kalki 2898 AD?

Amitabh Bachchan created excitement with his first appearance as Ashwatthama in the teaser for Kalki 2898 AD. This exciting pan-Indian sci-fi film stars also Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, and Kamal Haasan. In the teaser, which lasts over a minute, Bachchan is seen as a timeless warrior preparing for a major battle. In the epic Mahabharata, Ashwatthama is known as the son of Dronacharya, the respected teacher of the Kuru dynasty.

Ashwatthama is believed to be an immortal entity and a follower of Kalki – who is the tenth and final incarnation of the Hindu deity, Lord Vishnu.

In December 2023, Nag Ashwin addressed an event at IIT Bombay where he shed light on the dystopian drama's intriguing title­ and why he collaborated with industry titans like Bachchan and Haasan. When querie­d about switching the title from Project K to Kalki 2898 AD, and the­ significance of 2898 AD, Ashwin hinted at an underlying rationale­ yet to be reve­aled. He acknowledge­d an undisclosed logic behind the spe­cific year, though its validity remains uncertain.

The release date of this magnum opus remains a mystery. Earlier, the creators of the film told fans that the project will hit the theatres on May 9, 2024. However, keeping in view of the ongoing Lok Sabha Elections, it is very likely that the release date of the film will be postponed. The makers are yet to make an official announcement.
