Tanya Hope: "I'm No Longer in Survival Mode and Will Be Picky About My Films"
25 days ago | 5 Views
Tanya Hope, who kicked off her acting career with the 2016 movie Appatlo Okadundevadu, is excited to hit the ten-year mark in the industry. She’s had some impressive hits in Tamil cinema, like Dharala Prabhu and Thadam.
Reflecting on her journey, she mentions how much has changed over the years. “I’m not sure if it’s just the industry, but as a woman, I’ve had to learn a lot, like setting boundaries and knowing when to say no. It’s all about prioritizing myself and accepting that it’s perfectly fine to say no.”
Tanya Hope Interview: I'm super selective these days
Tanya reflects on her early work days and emphasizes her strong work ethic. "If the hours are from 6 am to 8 pm, you can bet I'll be there, no exceptions. I still stick to that. But when it comes to making a film, if there's an action scene and the safety gear isn't ready, I used to just roll with it. I didn't set any limits and often overlooked my own needs. Back then, I was just trying to survive and took on everything. But that's not me anymore; I'm much more laid-back now. I know what I bring to the table and I'm choosy about my work and the people I spend time with, including who I let into my romantic life," Tanya shares.
The young actress believes it's crucial that even during tough scenes for a movie, she needs to feel it's meaningful. She emphasizes that her feelings now take precedence over her past reckless mindset. “Back then, it was all about fear; now, it’s driven by passion.”
Tanya, who describes herself as a bit reserved and struggles with self-expression, finds it challenging to put herself out there. That's why she sees films as a way to express herself. “When I’m on set and I’m told to shout, scream, or cry, it feels like a release. It connects to my real life and is really therapeutic for me, which is why I can’t imagine doing anything other than acting.”
‘My goal is to do work with good teams’
Her latest movie, Vallan, hit theaters on Friday, and it’s a thriller, a genre Tanya is quite familiar with. “For my role as a cop in Ranam Aram Thavarel, I had to tap into my masculine side. She’s a no-nonsense character who knows her limits. Sometimes, you pick up lessons from the roles you play. In Vallan, my character is more light-hearted and refreshing, which I can totally relate to. I really enjoy both types of roles,” she shares.
When asked about her plans for 2025, Tanya says, “Since 2016, I’ve just been going with the flow. I never had a solid plan or strategy. But now, something has changed in me. This year, I’m going to focus on streamlining my projects and have clear goals in mind. I want to work on films in various languages and collaborate with great teams.”
