Australia's Test and ODI captain, Pat Cummins, and his wife, Rebecca (Becky), have celebrated the arrival of their second child, a daughter named Edi. The couple announced this joyful news on social media, with Becky sharing a heartfelt photograph of their newborn.
“She’s here,” Becky Cummins expressed on Instagram, alongside an image of Edi nestled in her embrace. “Our beautiful baby girl, Edi … Words cannot convey the immense joy and love we are experiencing at this moment.”
Cummins, who has taken paternity leave during Australia’s ongoing Test series in Sri Lanka, has emphasized the importance of balancing family life with his cricketing responsibilities. Reflecting on the time he lost following the birth of his first child, Albie, the Australian captain previously articulated his intention to be more present during this significant period.
“I missed a significant portion [of son Albie’s early days] last time, and I want to find a way to spend more time at home during that initial phase this time,” Cummins stated in October.
He advocates for a healthy equilibrium between cricket and personal life, asserting that this should be a standard practice for all players.
“Reasonably speaking, no one will object if someone needs to prioritize their family,” he remarked. “We are playing cricket; it is not the end of the world. Our goal is to support individuals to have long, successful careers in Australia, and it is unreasonable to expect them to pause their lives to travel the world and neglect everything else. We maintain an open approach regarding family matters.”
Cummins’ teammates, Travis Head and Mitch Marsh, recently took paternity leave during Australia’s series against Pakistan, while Indian captain Rohit Sharma also missed the opening Test of the series against Australia last year to be present for the birth of his second child. Similarly, Virat Kohli opted out of the home Tests against England in 2024 to support his wife, Anushka Sharma, as they welcomed their second child.
