Sabari is all set to hit the screens on May 3, 2024. Anil Kaltz is making his debut as a director with the Varalaxmi Sarathkumar starrer. He speaks to u about how he bagged the chance to direct the film, working with Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, highlights of the film, and more. Here is the transcript.

What made you choose Varalaxmi Sarathkumar as the female lead?

The audience in Telugu states has only seen Varalaxmi in negative roles. But she is a very talented actress and not many know about her emotional side. With Sabari, the audience will get to see a delicate side of her. Mam's performance in the film will definitely move you to tears.

The reason behind the title Sabari?

I have had this title in mind for the last two years or so. The title is derived from Ramayan, where Sabari's character waited for Ram for a long time. The story of the film is about a mother's love for her daughter and how she goes to extreme lengths to save her from a bad omen.

About your background?

I was born and brought up in Hyderabad and have been an avid film buff right from my childhood. I have assisted B Gopal, AS Ravi Kumar, and Madan previously. Once I did that, I moved to Chennai and also worked in many Tamil films as an AD. Now, I am making my debut with Sabari.

About bagging this crazy offer?

Sabari happened only because of my producer, Mahendra Garu. He approved the story in one sitting, gave me whatever I needed, and spent a lot of money on promotions. He has also seen the film and is very happy with the final product.

What's the USP of Sabari?

The film is an emotional mother-daughter story. At the same time, the conflict point is very new and will shock the audience. The thrills showcased in the second half of the film will be amazing and keep you on the edge of your seats.

About the music score by Gopi Sundar?

Music plays a key part in the film and drives the narrative forward. The best part of the film is t he manner in which Gopi Sundar composed the songs and elevated the thrills through his stunning BGM. Gopi Sundar is the unsung hero of the film and will take you on a memorable journey with Sabari.
