Actor Amala Paul recently disclosed that her husband Jagat Desai was unaware of her acting career while they were dating. While accepting the Critics Award for Best Actress at the JFW Movie Awards, she made the unexpected statement that her husband only learned about her fame after she became pregnant.

OnManorama translated her words in Tamil as: “Jagat and I met in Goa, and although he’s Gujarati, he settled there. I informed him that I was from Kerala, but he didn’t watch many south Indian films. I didn’t reveal to him that I was an actor and provided him access to a private Instagram account. Later, I discovered I was pregnant, and we got married shortly thereafter. ”

During her pregnancy, Jagat began looking into her career and was ‘amazed’ to learn about her popularity. “While I was at home awaiting our child, he started watching my films one by one. He enjoys attending award shows, so witnessing me receive awards, walk the red carpet, and speak on stage truly amazed him,” she stated

Jagat Desai also allegedly inquired when he could see ‘one of these red carpets live,’ and at that moment, she informed him she had ‘no idea’. After announcing Amala’s pregnancy in January 2024, the couple revealed in June of the same year that they had a son whom they named Ilai.

Recent work

Amala commenced her career in 2009 with the Malayalam movie Neelathamara and the 2010 Tamil film Veerasekaran as Anakha. Director Samy had recommended she change her screen name due to Amala Akkineni. However, following the failure of her 2011 film Sindhu Samaveli, she chose to use her birth name. In 2024, she appeared in the Malayalam films Aadujeevitham – The Goat Life and Level Cross. She is currently filming for Dvija.
