Netizens have been labeling Alia Bhatt as a 'hypocrite' as she was recently spotted carrying a calf leather bag at an event. On 5th March, Tuesday, Alia, who is a brand ambassador for Gucci, was spotted at an event for the brand, but it was her bag that caught everyone's eye.

Netizens grill Alia Bhatt for carrying a leather bag

A Reddit user who goes by the name Fine Farm 8583 revealed on his post that Alia Bhatt was carrying a bag worth $2800, which was made of 'calf skin'. The user posted a picture of the actress carrying the bag in her hand and also mentioned the price as well as the Google search for 'calf skin' indicating that the bag is made up of cows that are as young as 3 years old. The caption on the post read: "Poacher producer Alia Bhatt promoting Calf Leather Bag."

It is to be noted that Alia Bhatt recently produced a series on Amazon Prime Video titled Poacher. The show narrates the story of how elephants are harmed by the smuggling of ivory. 

Reacting to the post, a Reddit user wrote, "The least she could have done is not carry a calf leather bag less than two weeks after promoting the web series. Before people come at me, yes, I'm aware that Gucci provides her with a certain number of options to choose from and they might not have provided her with any non leather bags. However, she's Alia Bhatt, not an influencer that does not have the ability to refuse/demand other options. I know that she gets a lot of unnecessary hate but like… she also does dumb things like this on a regular basis."

"This could have been avoided by NOT carrying that bag. At least not in public. Be a hypocrite like everyone else, but at least be smart enough to do it behind the camera," wrote another.

One user called 70% of the celebrities dumb and wrote: "how can you expect her to be that smart common😂 70% people from bollywood are either too dumb or they think of us as too stupid" One user also mentioned that the celebrities have double standards and wrote: "The double standards of these celebrities (not just Alia) is so annoying."

For the uninitiated, the Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani actress has been vocal about supporting animals and also owns a cat herself. Hence, her carrying a bag that is made of cow skin irked internet users and she came under the scanner. As a big celebrity, whom a lot of people look up to, this was not acceptable to the netizens, and therefore the actress had to go through harsh comments on social media. 

Meanwhile, during the trailer launch of Poacher last month, Alia Bhatt highlighted the show and how it is important to support such stories. She said that the story of Poacher moved her genuinely and it sheds light on brutal crimes that take place in our forests. "I am confident that Poacher will serve as an eye-opener, delivering a powerful message to be more compassionate and considerate towards all living beings," she added.
