The Honda CBR650R and CB650R E-Clutch models are anticipated to arrive in India shortly, as suggested by social media teasers from Honda BigWing India. The most recent versions of this middleweight pair were introduced in India in January 2025, with consumers in the country not having access to the sought-after E-Clutch technology at that time. With the new teasers, we should look forward to the introduction of the more sophisticated E-Clutch variants in the near future.

The Honda CB650R naked streetfighter is currently offered at ₹9. 2 lakh, while its fully-faired counterpart, the CBR650R, is priced at ₹10 lakh (both ex-showroom). When the E-Clutch variants become available in the country, anticipate an additional cost of around ₹30,000 for the enhanced technology.

Honda CB650R and CBR650R: What is E-Clutch?

AvailableIn the European and US markets, the E-Clutch feature is designed to ease the rider's mind by reducing the fatigue associated with shifting, particularly in urban traffic. This feature removes the necessity to pull the clutch lever when starting, stopping, and changing gears. With this, the rider can merely use the shift pedal for quick and uniform gear changes.

The Honda E-Clutch functions based on vehicle parameters, which include speed, engine rpm, and gear position. An actuator unit that contains two servo motors inside the right-hand engine cover operates the clutch. The system also enables riders to modify the operational feel of the shift pedal through three settings – Hard, Medium, and Soft.

Even with the new feature, riders have the option to manually engage the clutch by pulling the lever at any time. Honda states that the E-Clutch system will reactivate in less than a second when the engine rpm exceeds a certain level, or within five seconds at a lower speed. If found unnecessary for a specific journey, the rider may opt to completely disengage the E-Clutch feature using the switchgear.
