The Kia Carens MPV was an immediate success for the automaker upon its debut in 2021, and the company has disclosed some fresh details regarding its sales performance. At the launch of the new Carens Clavis MPV, Kia stated that the petrol versions account for approximately 58 percent of the overall Carens sales. The other 42 percent is derived from the diesel versions.

32% of people who buy Kia Carens choose the automatic transmission

Kia has sold more than two lakh units of the Carens since its introduction, and the MPV has succeeded in establishing its own space in a segment largely influenced by the Maruti Ertiga and Toyota Innova Crysta. The automaker additionally disclosed that 32 percent of the customers of the Kia Carens have chosen the automatic transmission options. Kia provides an automatic transmission selection with two out of three engines. The 1. 5-litre naturally aspirated petrol is combined with a 6-speed manual, while the 1. 5-litre turbo petrol comes with an IMT and 7-speed DCT. The 1. 5-litre turbo diesel is combined with a 6-speed manual and torque converter. A significant portion of the demand is therefore arising from the higher variants of the Kia Carens.

The new Kia Carens Clavis will be sold alongside the Carens and will also get an electric version at a later stage

The new Kia Carens Clavis will be available for sale alongside the Carens and is expected to have an electric variant introduced later. The Kia Carens will soon face rivalry from within its own lineup with the launch of the Carens Clavis. This new MPV had its global introduction on May 8, 2025, and is a more premium variant derived from the Carens, featuring a revamped design, enhanced features, and advanced technology. Both the Kia Carens and Carens Clavis will exist together, sharing the same showroom space. Both models will eventually be accompanied by an all-electric version, marking Kia's first mass-market electric vehicle in India.

Kia Carens Clavis: What to expect?

The Carens Clavis seeks to establish a fresh segment of private consumers for the automaker, particularly with the premium design inspired by Kia’s contemporary models. The forthcoming variant includes Level 2 ADAS, 17-inch alloy wheels, a panoramic display for the digital and infotainment systems, and a redesigned steering wheel. Additionally, the model will feature 64-colour ambient lighting, an 8-speaker Bose audio system, an air purifier, a panoramic sunroof, an electrically adjustable driver’s seat, and more.

The soon-to-be-released Carens Clavis will share its foundation with the Carens and will retain the same petrol and diesel engine choices. Kia has also affirmed that the new MPV will be offered in eight variants - HTE, HTE(O), HTK, HTK+, HTK+(O), HTX, and HTX+. We anticipate that the Carens will be limited to fleet operations, while the Kia Carens Clavis will focus on private consumers. Anticipate prices to begin at ₹10. 50 lakh (ex-showroom) and up.
